PharmaCielo Applies for Medical Marijuana Cultivation License in Colombia
PharmaCielo Colombia Holdings S.A.S. has officially applied for its license to grow medical marijuana in Colombia, the company announced today. If approved, PharmaCielo plans to begin its cultivation efforts from its nursery in Rionegro, a city in the department of Antioquia not far from Medellín.
The company, which already has received approval to process cannabis oil extracts for medical and scientific purposes, is among the first to submit an application to legally cultivate marijuana. The Colombian government’s announced last week on August 10 that it was now accepting applications.
The review period is expected to take no more than 30 days, “provided the specific requirements for the license have been met,” according to PharmaCielo Colombia Holdings, a subsidiary of the Canada-based PharmaCielo Ltd.
“This is an essential next step in the establishment of our complete operations in Colombia,” said Patricio Stocker, President and CEO of PharmaCielo Ltd. “PharmaCielo is ready to commence cultivation immediately upon receiving license approval.”
