Viva Launches 14 New Domestic Routes, Connecting 5 Additional Colombian Cities

It is customary for business in Colombia, except for retail of course, to slow down in the second half of December. On the other hand, Colombian low-cost airline Viva seems to be following the mantra of aviation legend Tony Ryan of RyanAir: “It’s better to wear away than waste away!” The company is expanding aggressively, adding 14 new domestic routes within Colombia, opening travel to five additional cities not previously served by Viva.

Five of the new routes will have no competition from any other airline, opening new travel options for passengers: Armenia connecting to Cartagena and San Andres; and Cartagena connecting with Villavicencio, Neiva and Pasto. Tickets go on sale today, and flights begin in March.

The Colombian cities of Valledupar, Neiva, Pastó, Villavicencio & Armenia are joining Viva’s route network with tickets starting at $15 USD ($59,000 pesos).

Viva flights connecting through its Medellín hub will serve Pereira, Armenia, Villavicencio, Valledupar, Riohacha & Pastó. Cali will add flights to and from Monteria; and Cartagena will add flights with Villavicencio, Cúcuta, Armenia, Pastó & Neiva, Bucaramanga with Santa Marta, and San Andrés gains connectivity with Pereíra and Armenia.

These new routes grow Viva’s network to 44 domestic routes across 18 destinations in Colombia with an expectation to transport at least 50,000 passengers on each route in the first year. On routes such as Medellín-Pereira the projections reach 83,000 passengers, while Armenia – Medellín should transport 66,000 passengers due to greater weekly frequencies.
