Viva Launches Nonstop Routes To Buenos Aires, Argentina From Medellín & Bogotá, Colombia
Medellín, Colombia based ultra low-cost airline Viva announced Thursday the start of air service between the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires and the Colombian capital of Bogotá, and Viva’s home base of Medellín. The new routes which begin operations June 15 increase Viva’s international route network to 14 destinations.
“The opening of Buenos Aires as Viva’s new international destination is particularly important for us and for me as an Argentine, as we will be the only airline that operates the Medellín-Buenos Aires route directly and best of all, with our characteristic low prices that will make this destination more accessible to Colombians. In addition, thanks to this new connection, Argentine citizens will be able to connect with Miami in very short stops from our Medellín Hub, and they will also be able to enjoy our network of international destinations in the center and north of the continent,” said Félix Antelo, Viva’s CEO.
With four weekly flights from Medellín and Bogotá, Viva expects its fares will generate a general decrease in the market-wide cost of tickets between Argentina and Colombia by up to 40%. The airline said it expects to carry approximately 140,000 passengers in its first year of operations on the routes. Initial pricing for travel beginning June 15 starts at $199 USD for Bogotá – Buenos Aires, and $219 USD for Medellín – Buenos Aires. Both flights are serviced by Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires.
“Personally, it’s with great pride, immense happiness…in my personal case, I have lived away from Buenos Aires for 12 years, but I know what this means for people, it opens another world for people. For me personally, it brings me much closer to my family! My son can see his grandparents, his cousins. This brings immense joy for me,” said Antelo, who is originally from Buenos Aires, to Finance Colombia.
