“Half Naked & Smoking:” Colombian Judge Suspended After Appearing In Bed During Virtual Court Proceeding

Colombia’s Sectional Commission for Judicial Discipline has suspended without pay, Judge Heidy Vivian Polania Franco for three months from her role as criminal judge in the Eastern border city of Cúcuta after the entity received complaints that the judge appeared for an online hearing in bed, smoking and inappropriately dressed.

In addition to her legal duties, the judge appears to enjoy posting provocative pictures of herself on social media. However, in this case the judge was presiding over a hearing to determine whether a criminal suspect should be released or detained pending trial. The disciplinary entity determined that the judge violated norms of decorum and conduct, and failed to duly respect the proceeding and those involved.
