Why is Cartagena Refinery worth a virtual visit?
- The Cartagena refinery (above photo) is the most modern in Latin America. For the last 10 years, Ecopetrol has embarked on a $6.5 billion USD modernization and expansion project.
- With a design capacity to process 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day, it transforms 97.5% of the crude it receives into marketable products. At the same time, the plant meets the most demanding international environmental standards.
- Ecopetrol’s Investment Plan for 2020 includes a $150 million USD project to interconnect the original refinery unit with a newer complex built in the expansion.
