Colombian Low Cost Carrier (LCC) Viva Air yesterday announced that beginning May 22, it will operate 4 weekly routes between Miami, Florida (MIA) and the coastal city of Cartagena, Bolivar (CTG) in Colombia. Tickets are already available for sale on the airline’s website. Viva Air has been in growth mode, and only 8 years old, has already carried over 20 million passengers, flying routes primarily in Colombia and Peru. This route marks the second that Viva Air flies into Miami, the other being from its home base in the Medellín suburb of Rionegro, Colombia. Viva Air will offer 4 flights weekly, with 3 additional flights per week during peak season.

“Big news comes with grand experiences, and at Viva Air, we focus on listening to our passengers and generating unforgettable moments,” said Viva Air CEO Felix Antelo. “For that, we convert our flights into a ‘cruise in the skies’ and connect two seas with the new route Cartagena-Miami. We hope to transport 92,000 passengers a year, and to dynamize the market with the ‘Viva Effect’ reducing ticket prices in the marketplace by 25%. Now, in addition to connecting our existing Miami Medellín route, travelers of the Caribbean will get these benefits.

Cartagena – Miami

  • Fares begin at $227 USD
  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Sunday 13:45-17:45
  • Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday 13:25-17:25

Miami-Cartagena

  • Fares begin at $208 USD
  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Sunday 19:15-21:10
  • Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday 18:55-20:50

“The new Airbus A320 aircraft allow us to advance in our international expansion strategy, since they now fly greater distances, are more efficient, and allow us to maintain our value proposition and punctuality,” added Antelo.
