Zijin Continental Gold Donates $100,000 Of Hospital Equipment & Supplies To Rural Hospitals In Colombia
In order to prepare for the spreading Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic, Continental Gold, fresh from its acquisition by Zijin Mining, has announced a contribution of $100,000 USD worth of hospital equipment and supplies to the rural and small town hospitals serving the region near its Buriticá gold mine in western Antioquia, Colombia.
The donations by Zijin Continental Gold are expected to also relieve pressure on Medellín hospitals and allow rural patients to be treated locally without travel.
The San Juan de Diós Hospital located in the tourist town of Santa Fe de Antioquia will receive 4 vital sign monitors with capnography capability (blood carbon dioxide monitoring), essential for treating respiratory diseases like Coronavirus infections. San Juan de Diós is the only level-2 care facility in the region outside of Medellín. Smaller local hospitals in the towns of Cañasgordas, Giraldo and Buriticá will receive COVID-19 blood testing kits, and along with clinics in the hamlets of Bagadó and Lloró, all will share a shipment of:
- 1,000 N95 face masks
- 1,000 hospital gowns
- 200 boxes of surgical gloves
- 100 protective suits
- Antibacterial gel
- 4 biohazard protection kits
The mine ha already been distributing via health brigades in local villages, filter masks, antibacterial gel, liquid soap, ammonia, infrared remote-sensing thermometers, and other supplies. In addition, the Toronto-based company has been purchasing produce and crop outputs from small farmers and entrepreneurs in the area to support their incomes and livelihoods in the face of a drop in demand and commerce.
