Unisys Ups Its Commitment To Colombia, Opens Global Innovation Center
Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) has announced the launch of the Unisys Global Innovation Center in Bogotá, Colombia. This center will be focused on the creation of customized IT solutions for Unisys clients throughout the world. The Bogotá center will be the second of its kind that Unisys has established globally, complementing the company’s initial center in India.
Having opened last month, professionals at the Bogotá Center will provide end-user solutions expertise and support for businesses in the United States, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. Unisys expects that the center will expand to include software professionals focused on security and data center solutions. The company plans to have nearly 20 professionals employed at the Bogotá center by the end of 2015.
“Colombia is the perfect place to establish another center of innovation for new solutions that address our global clients’ most pressing technology requirements. Latin America has huge potential as a market for IT professionals. Also, Colombia boasts one of the highest rates in solution penetration due to its many innovative and demanding clients seeking emerging technologies and services that can benefit their business,” says Dan Huberty, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Solutions and Portfolio Management, Unisys Global Managed Services.
“The innovation center is bringing social technology, social media in, training the folks here in Bogotá on how to use and develop those solutions, they’re going to be at the forefront of developing those solutions for Unisys around the globe, Huberty told Finance Colombia.
Unisys chose Bogotá as the headquarters for the new Innovation Center because of the advantages it offers in logistics and economic and political stability relative to other countries in the region. Unisys also considered factors such as economic growth, infrastructure, time zone alignment with the US, competitiveness and a sophisticated culture aligned with that of the US.
“Establishing this innovation center in Colombia enables us to provide both the whole of Latin America and the world with more specialized resources and best-in-class solutions that deliver value-added services, enhanced care to our clients, and cultural communication and integration in an expanded range of countries,” said Carlos Ferrer, Vice President and General Manager for Central, Andean and Southern Latin America at Unisys.
“This will bring a lot of benefits to the region at the same time, because normally new technology is launched in North America, and then later it comes to us. But with this new innovation center being here, we will have access to the same level of technology and expertise as the US, at the same time, said Daniel Carrasco, Unisys’ CTO of Latin America Enterprise Solutions.
This new center is the latest of Unisys’ investments in Colombia as a key country for development and delivery of IT services. Currently, Unisys has other two managed service centers in Colombia: in Rionegro, outside of Medellín and in Bogotá. Those two managed service centers employ more than 700 professionals.
