During 2021, 12 airlines have announced new routes, with Colombia now ranking within the top 20 global commercial aviation markets, and third place in Latin America.
From Colombia, Avianca launches 13 new direct routes from Cali to: New York, Cancun, Mexico City, San José and Quito; from Medellín to: Aruba, Mexico City, Orlando, San José, Quito and Guayaquil; from Bucaramanga to Miami, and Bogotá will launch a direct flight to Toronto, Canada.
Viva Air CEO Felix Antelo, a native of Argentina himself, has stated publicly that the airline expects to connect North & South America “from Buenos Aires to New York” through its Medellín hub.
The Cancún destination adds to Wingo’s route network to and from Cali, already connecting Panamá City, San Andrés, Cartagena, and Bogotá with 26 weekly flights from Colombia’s third largest city.
The Cali route joins the Bogotá – Orlando route already operated by the airline, with more than 5 weekly frequencies & 6,000+ seats, from Bogotá to Orlando.
With these new twice weekly flights, Wingo will now operate four direct routes from Medellín, the other destinations being Cancún, Bogotá and México City.
Since February 2021 when OAG resumed its post-pandemic punctuality measurement, Viva remains the most punctual airline in Colombia with a weighted average of 94.9%, between February and May of this year, continuing a 3-year run.
