Colombian technology unicorn Rappi and low-cost carrier Viva Air have announced a deal that will allow Rappi users to purchase flights directly from the Rappi app to Viva’s domestic and international destinations.

Even with the COVID-19 pandemic, Viva Air transported over 100,000 passengers to and from San Andrés during the first two months of 2021, with a load factor (occupancy rate) of 94%.

Easyfly operates 34 direct routes throughout Colombia with a presence in 28 cities and specializes in connectivity with Colombia’s secondary & tertiary cities. The Medellín - Cartagena flights restart March 9, with tickets on sale now.

Avianca indicated that the restrictions were necessitated by “the constant restrictions in different countries in terms of limitation of the entry of tourists, operational reductions, as well as mobility within cities, and the high uncertainty that passengers still have."

Avianca’s highest fare class of XXL includes home testing for up to six passengers at the same location. Avianca passengers who purchase standard and economy fares will be able to take the PCR or antigen tests at discounted rates

JetBlue passengers purchasing the basic fare they call “Basic Blue” for flights after July 19 will no longer be able to bring a carry-on item aboard without paying a $65 USD extra charge. JetBlue currently flies to Bogotá, Cartagena & Medellín in Colombia.

Bucking the general trend in the aviation & tourism sectors, Viva Air today announced further international expansion with new routes between its Medellín hub and Orlando Florida, México City, and Cancún, México along with a new route between Mexico City & Bogotá.

Finance Colombia reached out to multiple contacts within Avianca for comments or clarification but received no response. Torre El Dorado indicates that likewise, it has received only silence from the Bogotá based airline.
