Avianca Puts Two New Airbus A320neo Aircraft into Service
Avianca has started operating two new Airbus A320neo aircraft in Colombia, adding more than 300 seats to the Bogotá-based airline’s fleet.
The new jets, which are classified as “neo” jets for “new engine option,” went into service on December 23, according to Avianca, and each have the capacity for 153 seats, including 12 in business class.
In addition to domestic routes, the aircraft, which arrived from Airbus as part of a 100-unit order Avianca made in 2015, will be used for flights to the United States, said Avianca in a statement.
The carrier says that the aircraft engine’s efficiency can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by some 5,000 tons and offer savings of up to 20% on fuel. They also operate more quietly than many similarly sized aircraft, according to Avianca.
In all, Avianca now operates four “neo” aircraft from Airbus. In addition to these two new A320neo aircraft, the airline has two A321neos.
