African Delegation Visits Medellín To Study Bicycle Transportation
Last month a delegation of functionaries from Kenya, Ghana & Ethiopia were in Medellín to understand the success Colombia’s second largest city has had in implementing bicycle friendly infrastructure in the city’s urban transport ecosystem.
The mission participants studied how the public bicycle system EnCicla, the metro system and the INDER public fitness program’s strategy of “Active & Healthy Ways” (Vias Activas y Saludables) “Ciclovias” worked together to enhance public mobility throughout the city.
“I want to see what happens here in Medellín and how they were able to achieve it, to advance similar programs in our city and make cycling a form of transportation and healthy training,” said Kejela Mekonen, who is in charge of pedestrian and cyclist strategy in the office of transportation administration in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The delegation was hosted by the municipal investment promotion agency ACI Medellin and the presidential cooperation agency APC Colombia.
