Tigo and Microsoft Partner to Offer Cloud Services for Colombian Companies

Tigo Business and Microsoft have partnered to offer expanded cloud services to companies in Colombia. Using Microsoft’s Azure technology, some of the new offerings will include improved data services, increased security, local currency payments, and account management.

Tigo, which is owned by Luxembourg-based telecom Millicom, believes the new relationship will allow it to offer more innovative packages to clients and “bring cost, service, and security benefits to businesses across the LatAm region,” according to Marcelo Benitez, vice president of Tigo Business.

One aspect of the agreement is a plan to offer what the two companies call the “Cloud Solution Provider” (CSP) program, something that will allow Tigo Business to sell Microsoft CSP licenses and provide advice from certified experts for products including Microsoft Office 365. The companies are also touting other as-a-service offerings such as its virtual desktop infrastructure and disaster recovery services.

“Through this partnership with Tigo Business, and due to their brand and reach, we see great possibilities to unlock new opportunities for our mutual customers,” said Pablo Lombardero, an executive with Microsoft.

In addition to Colombia, the partnership will apply to Bolivia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Paraguay.

Tigo is the third-largest wireless carrier in Colombia after Claro, owned by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim’s América Móvil, and Movistar, a Madrid-based operated owned by Telefónica S.A.
