Colombia Based Viva Joins the US TSA PreCheck Trusted Traveler Program

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has just announced the addition of Colombian low cost airline Viva to its TSA PreCheck expedited travel security program  in the immigration process. The Medellín based airline currently flies to Orlando International Airport and Miami International Airport in the US, with more US routes in planning.

TSA PreCheck is an expedited screening program for low-risk travelers, currently in use at approximately 200 US airports.   The traveler can sign up for TSA PreCheck and avoid taking off shoes, belts, liquids, food, laptops and light jackets. In January 2022, 97% of all TSA PreCheck members waited less than five minutes.

TSA PreCheck is available to eligible US citizens, US nationals, and lawful US permanent residents when departing from a US airport, including when connecting on domestic flights after returning to the United States.  They can apply for TSA PreCheck for a cost of $85 for a five-year membership. Existing members may renew up to six months before their membership expires. Renewal may be completed online for $70 for an additional 5 years.

How does TSA PreCheck work?

When new applicants are approved, they receive a unique “Known Traveler Number” (KTN) which, when added to an airline reservation, makes them eligible to use TSA PreCheck lanes at security checkpoints. Most applicants receive a KTN within three to five days.

US Armed Forces civilian and active duty service members, including Reservists, and members of the National Guard may use their CAC ID as a KTN when making reservations to enjoy TSA PreCheck screening.

Passengers from registered airlines should look for the TSA Pre✓ indicator  (such as TSAPRECHK, TSA PRE ✓ TSA Pre✓) on their boarding pass to find out if they are eligible for TSA PreCheck control before their flight.
