Travelers leaving El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá (Photo credit: Jared Wade)

After Changes, Avianca Now Operating All Flights from Same Terminal at Bogotá’s El Dorado Airport

Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport enacted logistical changes this week that will see all of Avianca’s flights now arrive at the main terminal and two smaller carriers operating out of the airports smaller, secondary terminal.

Previously, most Avianca planes, including all of those flying international routes, used the main terminal of El Dorado International Airport, Terminal 1, but several domestic flights departed and landed from what had historically been known as Puente Aéreo and was recently rebranded as Terminal 2.

The difference led to confusion at times for infrequent flyers on the nation’s largest airline, and the situation was further complicated due to the relative lack of quick transfer options between the two locations.

But now all Avianca flights will leave and depart from the same terminal, while flights operated by two smaller airlines — discount carrier EasyFly and state-operated Satena — will use Terminal 2, also known as Puente Aéreo.

The changes went into effect on Sunday, April 29. The airport dispatched a team of 20 people across both terminals for the subsequent 72 hours in order to smooth the transition and help any confused travelers while also offering a shuttle bus to help transfer anyone who ended up at the wrong location.

Aerocivil, the Colombian regulator of the aviation industry, has also called on the affected airlines to be accommodating to any passengers who miss their flights due to lacking information about the change. Avianca and EasyFly have both planned to relax fees for missed flights caused by confusion for at least the next several weeks.
