PharmaCielo Begins Planting Medicinal Marijuana in Rionegro, Colombia

PharmaCielo Colombia Holdings S.A.S. this week began the process of planting medicinal marijuana at its 28-hectare growing facility in Rionegro.

The company, a subsidiary of Canadian medicinal marijuana company PharmaCielo Ltd., is growing both psychoactive strains containing THC and non-psychoactive strains known as CBD.

According to the company, it is the first in the country to receive the regulatory clearance to receive a “quota approval” and it will have its first planting process completed before the end of the year.

“We thank the government for their recognition of PharmaCielo’s readiness for the immediate planting of a wide variety of exclusive and historically important Colombian cannabis strains, which have been utilized for spiritual and wellness purposes by Colombia’s indigenous communities for decades and in some instances centuries,” said Federico Cock-Correa, CEO and director of PharmaCielo Colombia.

The company expects its first harvest to take place in “mid-year for processing and oil extraction,” it said in a statement. PharmaCielo’s nursery, located in Antioquia not far from the city of Medellín, has 12.1 hectares of open-air greenhouses dedicated to cultivation within its overall 27.7-hectare footprint.

In time, the company plans to increase its planting and production to work with other firms in the industry. “This is a very exciting time for the company, and we look forward to increasing our future cultivation footprint and quota as we ramp up production to meet global demand,” said Patricio Stocker, president and CEO of PharmaCielo Ltd.
