Traveler Alert: Cartagena To Temporarily Close Beaches For Maintenance
The Cartagena Mayor’s office has issued Decree 1458 of 2022 which orders the temporary closure of the Playa Blanca beach on the Barú peninsula, outside of Cartagena to provide maintenance. During several upcoming dates beginning this weekend, no activities related to tourism can be carried out, nor can the beaches be accessed by land or sea.
Colombia’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism (MinCIT) recommends tourists visiting Cartagena to take into account these closures, and to consider the dates when programming outdoor activities in and around Cartagena.
The beach will be closed:
- December 5 and 6, 2022
- January 24 and 25, 2023
- February 14 and 15, 2023
- March 28 and 29, 2023
- April 25 and 26, 2023
The ministry emphasized that these closures are essential to clean the beaches and facilitate recovery of the ecosystem and invited tourism service providers are invited to help spread the word of these measures to tourists and local population.
