Hydroelectricity is currently the most important source in the Latin American electricity matrix, and trends suggest that it will continue to be so in the coming decades, and in the future it will also play an important role not only as a base source, but as a source of support, particularly for the diversification of the electric matrix with other renewables. The projections of the International Energy Agency indicate that hydroelectricity will continue to be an essential part of the global energy matrix for at least next 20 years.

Dates: 9-10 June 2020
