Colombia’s Air Passenger Growth Continues Amid Regional Demand
Colombia’s air passenger traffic reached nearly 37 million from January to August 2024, according to Colombia’s Civil Aeronautics Authority. Domestic passenger volume saw a 15.6% increase compared to the same period in 2023, with 21.7 million passengers, representing a 27.9% increase over pre-pandemic 2019 levels. International travel also rose, with 15.2 million passengers, up 21.8% year-on-year.
Total seats offered rose 22.4%, with frequency increasing by 17.5%. Routes showed modest variation, with slight domestic increases offset by a 0.3% decrease in international routes.
Paula Bernal, Country Manager for IATA Colombia, attributed the sector’s growth to expanded seating capacity and reinforced traveler trust, reflecting higher demand and efforts to boost connectivity across Colombia.
