Colombia Captures American Narco-Fugitive Attempting To Travel From México To UK
Colombia’s CTI (analogous to the US FBI) Captured Daron Odell Jones during a layover at the El Dorado Airport in Bogotá as he attempted to travel from Mexico to the UK on a fake British passport. Jones fled probation from a 13-year sentence for collaborating with Mexican cartels to import and distribute cocaine in the US.
Sought by US marshals who collaborated with Colombian authorities, Jones was convicted by the United States District Court for South Alabama and received a 13-year sentence. After serving part of his sentence, Jones was given probation but instead escaped from the US using a false British passport. Authorities said Jones then traveled between the UK, Panamá and México.
Jones was flying between México and Colombia, and the flight had a layover in Bogotá, Colombia, which is where Colombia’s CTI in collaboration with US Marshals were able to locate, identify and detain him.
Jones is now in custody of Colombia’s migration police, Migración Colombia, where he is being processed for deportation to the US.
