Bancolombia Wins eCommerce Award for Digital Banking
Grupo Bancolombia (NYSE: CIB) walked away a winner in this week’s eCommerce Awards Colombia 2017 announcement, taking home an honor in the category the recognizes excellence for “Financial Services and Online Banking.”
The awards were given out by the local chapter of the regional eCommerce Institute, which each year honors leading companies in the digital economy in Colombia and Latin America.
The Medellín-based financial institution credits its increased tech focus for the award, noting that its digital transactions have increased 26% so far in 2017 compared to the same period of time in 2016.
Bancolombia, the largest bank in the country, also announced that its personal banking app, App Peronsas, hit the 6.6 million download mark this year and that its mobile wallet, Billetera Móvil, now has 144,000 users. The bank’s corporate banking app, App Empresas, recently reached 55,000 downloads.
Some of Bancolombia’s key digital banking initiatives introduced this year include the Emilia chatbot that gives financial advice through text messages, the integration of debit cards into its mobile wallet app, and a new Dynamic Key security feature for digital banking.
“This award is recognition of the initiative of the organization to challenge the conventional through services and products,” said Gabriel Di Lelle, vice president of innovation and digital transformation of Grupo Bancolombia.
