Avianca Adds Flights from Colombia to Spain and Bogotá to Cusco

Avianca plans to add more flights from Colombia to Madrid this fall, increasing the total number of trips offered between the Andean nation and Spain to 35. The country’s largest airline will provide four more flights each week between Bogotá and Madrid. It will also begin running two more flights each week from Cali to the Spanish capital and one more per week from Medellín to Madrid.

With the additional frequency, which will begin on November 18, Avianca will be adding 17,500 seats per week between Colombia and Spain, according to the carrier. The additional flights will all be made by Boeing 787s, and each can accommodate 250 passengers, 28 of which can fit into business class.

Avianca says that it is putting so many more planes in the air between the two nations “in response to the demand of passengers traveling for tourism and business to Colombia and other destinations in Latin America.”

This brings Avianca to a weekly total of 18 flights between Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport and Madrid; seven between Bogotá and Barcelona; seven between Cali and Madrid; and three between Medellín and Madrid. All 35 of these flights are non-stop.

New Avianca Flights Between Colombia and Spain

This announcement comes just two weeks after another new Bogotá route from Avianca went into service. On July 18, the airline flew its first flight from the Colombian capital to Cusco, Peru. Each week, it is now sending three Airbus 319s, capable of holding 120 passengers each, from Bogotá to the Peruvian city best known as a jumping off point to visit the legendary Inca ruins in Machu Picchu.

“We are proud of this step that we are taking,” said Nani Garrués, Avianca’s top official in Peru. “[We are] connecting an interior city of Peru with an international hub like Bogota, providing access to more passengers to and from Cusco, and fostering its potential as a major world tourist destination.”
