Leading Mexican airline Aeroméxico will begin operating a seasonal flight between Medellín and Cancún later this month, giving Colombians in the region a direct route to one of the region’s top beach-going destinations.

The inaugural flight on the new route will take off on November 17 and tickets will continue being sold for weekend-only travel through April 28 of next year, according to the Mexican carrier.

Flights will depart Cancún for José María Córdova International Airport outside Medellín each Saturday and Sunday through the end of April at 10:25 am with a scheduled landing at 1:37 pm. The return leg from Medellín to Cancún International Airport will take off 2:37 pm each weekend day and arrive at 5:57 pm.

The flight will be operated by a Embraer 190 aircraft that has the capacity for 99 passengers.

It will be the only direct flight between the two popular Latin American vacation locations, according to Anko van der Werff, chief revenue officer of Aeroméxico.

Dario Flota Ocampo, CEO of the tourism board of Quintana Roo, the Mexican state where Cancún is located, praised this development as part of a larger trend of more flights coming to the region, which has seen new international flights from carriers including Southwest Airlines, Frontier Airlines, WestJet, and GOL Airlines announced in recent months.

“This continued increase in international air connectivity demonstrates the growing demand for Quintana Roo’s tourism destinations and high-quality attractions,” said Ocampo. “These recent expansions offer millions of travelers in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, and Colombia new direct flights to Quintana Roo and its destinations, and we will continue to work closely with global airline partners to pursue new routes and in joint marketing initiatives.”
