Ecopetrol Begins Commercial Production at Infantas Oriente Oilfield

Commercial production is beginning at Infantas Oriente oilfield in eastern Colombia, state-controlled oil company Ecopetrol has announced.

The discovery well reached its target depth of around 600 meters at the start of the year and has been able to produce 250 barrels of light crude per day.

The opening field sits just three kilometers from La Cira-Infantas field, which is the oldest commercial field in the country and currently produces around 46,000 barrels of oil per day. Both as situated close to the firm’s refinery in Barrancabermeja.

Ecopetrol plans to drill 20 wells as it begins to develop the field this year and another 47 wells in 2019, the Bogotá-based company said in a statement.
