Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport Upgrades Instrument Landing System

In late November, Bogotá’s international airport began operating an upgraded tech-based system that helps pilots land more safely in low visibility.

Colombia’s civil aviation authority, Aerocivil, announced that it began using the category III level of the global standard Instrument Landing System (ILS) at El Dorado International Airport on November 30.

The system upgrade cost roughly $1 million USD (29 billion pesos), according to Aerocivil. The investment is part of an ongoing transformation effort at El Dorado that has included some 350 trillion pesos.

Germán Cardona, transport minister of Colombia, said that the new Instrument Landing System highlights the government’s commitment to connectivity, mobility and air safety.
