"The ultra-low-cost model is back in Colombia," said Estuardo Ortiz, CEO and president of JetSmart Airlines.

"His broad business acumen will be a key asset to our expansion plans in South America," said JetSmart CEO Estuardo Ortiz.

So far, the Chilean airline has cleared three of the five required certification phases and submitted the necessary documentation to operate domestically from several airports.

"We need the governments to work together to build the environment that will bring this capital, which is essential to developing aviation."
