Ecopetrol has struck oil in the Gulf of Mexico. It holds a 20% stake in the now-proven Warrior well site.

"The group has overcome the period of low oil prices and has returned to the path of growth in production," said CEO Juan Carlos Echeverry.

The Warrior well is located within an area called Green Canyon that is operated by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. Ecopetrol America controls nearly 20% of that block.

With its share of Gunflint field, Ecopetrol America's operations in the United States now exceed 10,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
