JetSmart started with domestic routes connecting Medellín, Bogotá, Cartagena, Pereira, Santa Marta, and Cali.

"The ultra-low-cost model is back in Colombia," said Estuardo Ortiz, CEO and president of JetSmart Airlines.

"His broad business acumen will be a key asset to our expansion plans in South America," said JetSmart CEO Estuardo Ortiz.

"We initiated as a startup airline, and in March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic began, we were operating 17 aircraft in Chile and Argentina," said Ortiz at the award ceremony.

"Colombia, for us, is undoubtedly one of the most important places, and we are preparing to operate domestically in 2024," said JetSmart CEO Estuardo Ortiz.

With this agreement, the airlines are going head-to-head with Delta-backed Latam and United Airlines-backed Avianca.

Finance Colombia has reached out to Ultra Air multiple times for comment but has received no response.
