Bancolombia's NowCast data reveals a cooling economy as construction and communications sectors face contraction in early 2026.

"The problem is that after years of corruption and mismanagement, the Colombian bank balance isn't in any shape to write the checks needed to move the inequality needle."

Last week in Colombia was one totally bereft of either macro data or economic surveys; this week will be the polar opposite.

It has been a busy week for President Petro with visits to Santiago, Chile and Caracas, Venezuela.

CPI may yet go higher, obviously not to those seen on the streets of Caracas or Buenos Aires, but only Chile (13.3%) amongst the mainstream Latam economies has higher inflation.

Looking back on the week several data points were published; none of which were particularly positive.

Ironically despite the stubborn inflation, the Central Bank at this Friday's meeting will not be increasing rates.

The sun will rise again. In fact for many it is already showing signs of an appearance and even Colombia still has a story to tell.
