Aerotel Medical Systems Gets Regulatory Approval to Distribute ECG Devices in Colombia

Colombia’s National Food and Drug Surveillance Institute has granted an INVIMA certification to Aerotel Medical Systems‘ high-resolution ECG devices. With the regulatory hurdle cleared, the firm can now move forward to distribute its “HeartLine” ECG line of products in the country, including its newest model that can transmit monitoring data through a cellular network.

In addition to the ease of sharing information, the company boasts that the technology speeds along the care process to a cardiac call center so that medical experts can diagnose the ECG data immediately. The transmission can be made through a HeartLine Receiving Station (HRS) or similar compatible system.

“Despite the impressive development, most Colombian providers still use transtelephonic ECG consultations,” said Ionatan Galeano, Aerotel’s marketing and sales manager for Latin America.

“By adopting Aerotel’s fully digital, cost-effective, and quality-certified solution, service providers can remotely monitor their patients efficiently, reliably, and at a very affordable price, using cutting-edge technology.”

Aerotel says it sees Colombia, where the leading cause of death is heart disease, as a “highly attractive market” for its telecardiology products. In its view, the Andean nation, alongside Mexico, Peru and Brazil, is a regional pioneer in the implementing so-called eHealth projects like those it sells.

As of the end of last year, per Aerotel, there were at least 600 healthcare providers in Colombia offering telecardiology services.
