Alonso Cardona Delgado Named Colombian Vice Minister of Mines and Energy

Alonso Cardona Delgado has been named vice minister of mines and energy, the Ministry of Mines and Energy announced this week.

Cardona Delgado, a mechanical engineer by trade who served as Colombia’s national energy director from 2012 to 2013, was officially appointed by Minister of Mines and Energy Germán Arce Zapata on January 18.

According to the ministry, he has “extensive experience” in the sector, serving as an advisor and director both the private and public sector.

Cardona Delgado earned his degree, with a specialization in the regulation of energy and gas from Universidad Externado in Colombia and a master’s degree in sustainable energy engineering from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He also graduated from the Colombian military academy Escuela Naval de Cadetes.

“My aim for us in 2018 is to improve the competitiveness of the Colombian economy with the use of renewable energy sources,” said Cardona Delgado.
