Fernando Schaeffer will head Latin American sales for Unisys

Global IT services firm Unisys has announced a vertical realignment of its LACSA region (Latin America, Central, South & Andean), naming current Vice President and General Manager Carlos Ferrer (above) as the head of the region’s financial services practice. Unisys counts roughly 450 financial institutions worldwide as customers, including over half of the world’s 25 largest banks. Sao Paulo based tech sector veteran Fernando Schaeffer will head Latin American sales for Unisys, coming from CapGemini Brasil where he was the Infrastructure Products and Services vice president.

The new regional structure adds public sector and commercial verticals, in addition to the financial services specialty. Unisys México vice president and general manager Vicente Salazar will head the public sector practice, and Andre Almeida, the director of Unisys Enterprise Solutions in Brasíl will head the commercial section. Unisys also announced that Luis Delphim would head financial services for Brasil.

“This new Financial Services Leader role for Spanish speaking countries in Latin America is a grand challenge and an opportunity to apply the experience I have in the technology sector as well as in diverse businesses in the region to offering our broad set of solutions to financial sector businesses that are conscious of the advantages that IT brings,” said Carlos Ferrer.

Regarding the arrival of Schaeffer, Unisys Latin America president Helcio Beninatto said: “I believe that Fernando’s arrival comes at a very important moment for the company, in that we are counting on a new regional structure as part of our growth plan. The idea is to direct the sales organization in the constant search for better practices and knowledge transfer throughout the diverse countries in which we operate, so that we can achieve our business objectives.”

With some 20,000 employees worldwide, Unisys has significant operations in Colombia, including a support operations center in the city of Rionegro, outside of Medellín, and a software design and engineering center in the capital city of Bogotá.
