Fitpal, a health and fitness startup that allows users access to various gyms in the country, won the award for digital entrepreneur of the year, while Réditos Empresariales took home the prize in the high-profile large company category.

The awards were handed out at the Cartagena de Indias Convention Center by “big four” auditing and professional services firm PwC and CINTEL, the Bogotá-based IT organization that organizes the annual conference that is now in its 33rd year.

The judging criteria for each category weighs a variety of factors including business model, sustainability, use of platforms, impact on customers, and strategic vision.

Fitpal beat stiff competition from Muvo and Mobijob for the award, and Réditos Empresariales came out on top in a category that also featured finalists Natura Cosmetics, Claro, and Certicamara.

Réditos Empresariales, part of Grupo Réditos, was recognized for its Gana venture, which the company says has aimed to transform the traditional business model by using open, digital channels to sell products and services on virtual platforms.

“Receiving this recognition at Andicom 2018, which is the most important platform in the information and communication technologies industry, places us as one of the most important and innovative companies in the country,” said Oscar Pérez Agudelo, executive president of Réditos Group.

Virtual Llantas, an e-commerce site that sells tires, won for top small and medium-sized enterprises. The two runners up in this category were Actualícese and Fundación Dividendo por Colombia.

The final award recognized not just tech success but also the wider reach of the organization’s work. The Digital Transformation Award with Social Impact went to Afin and UALET, which jointly facilitated a fintech venture that allows people who otherwise would be unlikely to participate in markets to invest small sums into investment funds without going through a traditional stock exchange.

Grupo Editorial Rehobot and the LGBT Chamber of Traders of Colombia were the other finalists for the social impact award.
